Tall Oaks From Little Acorns Grow Diptych Portfolio in Development

Having recently completed the Sante Fe Workshop Take Two: Double Exposures and Diptychs led by the excellent fine-art photographer Manuela Thames, I have an entirely new skill set with which to produce artful labors of love.

For three weeks, we explored methods in camera and post-production to enrich our imagery through the combining of photographs — by superimposition, by the creation of a diptych, or by both. We developed our understanding of the art forms while honing our creative vision and process for curating work for presentation and development.

Used from Late Antiquity to present day, diptychs display a complementary pair of images that typically show different but related scenes that enhance each other while forming a distinct artwork. A double exposure involves superimposing two exposures to form a single photograph.

The portfolio titled “Tall Oaks From Little Acorns Grow" was inspired by the workshop. It shows a variety of photographic techniques and a blend of environmental portraits and environmental elements. Its purpose is to promote joy for the great outdoors, discovery, playfulness, and connection and to tell a story of how we experience the world while camping in our backyard.
