Fitiavana

Charged with creating a fitting exhibit for the United States Geological Survey, Hockett’s “Fitiavana" is an artistic representation of ocean jasper found in Madagascar. The image — a manipulation of a photograph of a cut and polished stone — possesses design elements of pattern, line, and color, and shows remarkable organic beauty formed from mineral matter.

The piece will be on display at the United States Geological Survey’s Long Gallery in Reston, VA from May 1 through May 31, 2018.
